What Kind of Scissor Lifts Do You Need for Your Project?

Jul. 05, 2021

Scissor lifts are useful pieces of equipment on construction sites. Scissor lifts provide a safe, stable housing and rising platform that can help workers perform precise tasks at high places, from close inspection to cable routing.

A scissor lift is a construction hoist, which is a machine equipped with a platform to lift workers and loads to high places. Construction lifts include different types of scissor lifts and cantilever lifts - however, there are major differences between them. Although scissor lifts are shorter and can only move up and down, they can lift multiple workers at once, making them a more logical and affordable option for projects where height is not a concern. Scissor lifts come in a variety of sizes, applications, and fuel types. Here are the four main types of scissor lifts seen on job sites.

Crawler Scissor Lift

Hered sells a variety of different crawler scissor lifts including (HC1216E, HC0507E). By using our unique class structure and extensive filtering function, you can quickly find the crawler scissor lift you need. The crawler scissor lift has long-lasting performance and can improve work efficiency. This type of aerial work platform lift is very suitable for indoor maintenance or outdoor construction tasks. The electric crawler scissor lift has a longer running time and can provide a quieter working environment.

Hydraulic Scissor Lift

Hydraulic scissor lifts are powered by a manual or engine-driven hydraulic system. The varying pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the machine helps operate the lift and move the platform up and down. Because hydraulic scissor lifts are relatively simple to operate and require little training for the user, they are an easy choice when you have a lifting need.

Hydraulic scissor lifts operate much slower in colder weather because the oil becomes more viscous at lower temperatures. Although this issue has been addressed in newer models, hydraulic scissor lifts are usually best suited for projects where speed and horsepower are not a priority.

Diesel scissor lift

Diesel scissor lifts are one of the most common lifts used on construction sites. Their signature cross-bracing system allows them to reach heights of up to 30 feet, with some models extending up to 60 feet.

Because diesel lifts are powered by conventional diesel fuel, they are noisy and emit fumes into the environment. For this reason, they are typically used on outdoor construction sites or in areas that are well ventilated and can dissipate noise. Their large design also provides them with a larger aerial platform.

Rough Terrain Scissor Lift

Rough terrain scissor lifts are also designed exclusively for outdoor terrain. They come equipped with a high weight capacity, heavy-duty tires, and additional safety mechanisms like fall restraints and arrestors. This makes them ideal for work sites with uneven surfaces and slopes, as well as projects that take place in inclement weather. Rough terrain scissor lifts can provide elevation of up to 50 feet and widths up to 10 feet. The machines are powered by diesel, gas, liquid propane, or dual fuel.

What kind of scissor lift do you need for your project?

Choosing the right scissor lift is critical to meeting your project's needs. In addition to the terrain conditions and power source explained in Scissor Lift Types, you will need to consider factors such as the weight you want to lift, the strength and height of the lift, the stability of the load, the loading method, and the size of the platform you need.

All of these factors interact with each other and all of them must be considered as part of the equation when selecting a scissor lift. If you want to get more information about the best scissor lift for sales, welcome to contact us.
